    LUKE Y. THOMPSON

Agrees with the Tomatometer 67% of the time.

Biography: First published at the age of 10 when one of his poems was printed in a children's book in Ireland, Luke Y. Thompson had been an unofficial film critic for friends and family for many years before writing for the zines AteBall and his own KnifEdge, the latter of which caught the attention of the editors at the Los Angeles New Times, who were looking for a fresh perspective. Initially syndicated throughout all the New Times publications, his audience expanded with the merger of New Times and Village Voice, causing a few New York readers to get slightly upset. LYT has a degree in film production from USC, an L.A. Press Club Award for work done at the old New Times Los Angeles, and an honorable mention award for his online blog. But what he really wants to do is direct. And act (his most notable credit thus far was in Gregory Hatanaka's MAD COWGIRL, which he also assistant-directed). And rule the world. Luke is a shameless self promoter, as anyone who's seen his website, lytrules.com, can attest, especially if they bought one of his T-shirts (or rather, LYT-shirts) while there.
Favorites: 2001 (and all things Kubrick), Wings (1922), Flash Gordon (1980), Citizen Kane, Eraserhead, Beetlejuice, Robocop, Gone With the Wind, Carnival of Souls, Lost Highway, The Empire Strikes Back (NON special edition only), The Crow, Fight Club, Dr. Otto and the Riddle of the Gloom Beam, The Room.

Publications: Anchorage Press, Dallas Observer, E! Online, Houston Press, L.A. Weekly, Los Angeles CityBeat, LYTRules.com, New Times, OC Weekly, Village Voice

" Former hard-core punk rocker Dito Montiel's directorial debut, based on his memoir of the same name, has a raw street authenticity to it, but frequently runs into trouble when real life fails to follow a good story arc." — E! Online
