- This article is about the rap artist of the Beastie Boys. For the American screenwriter, please see Adam Horowitz.
Adam Keefe Horovitz, also known as King Ad-Rock or Adrock, (born October 31 1966, in South Orange, New Jersey) is a rapper, musician, producer, and actor. He is best known as a member of the pioneering rap group, the Beastie Boys.
Horovitz joined the Beastie Boys after a stint with a punk rock band, The Young and the Useless. The Young and the Useless would often play with the Beastie Boys and when Beastie guitarist John Berry quit, Horovitz was an obvious choice to replace him. He is one of the 3 steady members of the modern incarnation of the Beastie Boys. The Beasties (Horovitz, Mike D and MCA) got their first exposure as an opening act for Madonna on her Like a Virgin tour.
He has been linked romantically to various entertainers including Molly Ringwald (1987-1988), Ione Skye (1988-1999; married 1991-1999), and musician Kathleen Hanna (1996-present; married 2006).
In addition to his work with the Beastie Boys, Horovitz has released music with a side-project called BS 2000 and has done production for the Japanese group Teriyaki Boyz. For a time, he also pursued an acting career, with appearances in films such as Lost Angels, Roadside Prophets, and A Kiss Before Dying.
