Alan Davies is a comedian and actor, born 6 March 1966 in Essex, England. He won the Time Out award for Best Young Comic in 1991 and in 1995 appeared in the spoof travel show One for the Road. He later moved into television acting and played Jonathan Creek, a stage magician with a side interest in solving crimes between 1997 and 2004. In 2001 he played Robert Gossage in Bob and Rose, a comedy drama about a gay man falling for a woman, and the one of drama Magnolia. He currently appears as a permanent panellist on the BBC quiz game QI hosted by Stephen Fry.

He began presenting his own radio show The Alan Davies Show in 1998. A renowned Arsenal fan, he writes a weekly football column in The Times and has been occasionally featured in vignettes for Match Of The Day 2. He championed the case for John Lennon to be the greatest Briton of all time on the BBC's Great Britons series in 2002.

He is a vegetarian, as mentioned on several editions of QI. He is also recorded as being a regular deep sea diver, also mentioned on several editions of QI.

He is currently engaged to literary agent Kate Maskell. They will marry in January 2007.[1]
