Peter Jackson, the director of the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy and the forthcoming "King Kong" remake, has signed on to executive produce the effects-heavy "Halo," the movie adaptation of the popular video game title on the Xbox game system. Fox & Uni Win the "Halo" War Opens in new window
Earlier this week, we reported that a team of "Halo" soldiers invaded the various movie studios, each one brandishing Alex Garland's screenplay. And now comes word from The Hollywood Reporter that Fox and Universal have decided to split the expenses and produce the adaptation together. Universal gets to release the eventual "Halo" flick in North America, while Fox will sell it overseas. No word yet on whether or not Fox & Uni ponied up the $10 million requested price tag for the property ... but I wouldn't bet on it. More...

Microsoft had several delivery guys dressed up in full "battle chief" armor to deliver their proposed screenplay for a "Halo" movie.
