Edinburgh 2009: RT's 10 Must-See Movies
The Edinburgh Film Festival has come to a close and Rotten Tomatoes thought we'd make a traditional look back over all of the films playing at this year's fest and present to you - in strictly alphabetical order - our 10 must-sees. As a public-facing festival, Edinburgh's selection attempts to combine the accessible with the artistic, and delivers a collection of movies both diverse and outstanding. Five Favorite Films with Alex Proyas
This month, Alex Proyas returns with a new film for sci-fi audiences: Knowing, in which a professor (Nicolas Cage) discovers that predictions sealed 50 year prior in a time capsule had accurately predicted a series of disasters in modern history. Among his influences for the film are William Friedkin, whose Exorcist he says partially inspired him during filming. Below, we talk with Alex Proyas as he shares his Five Favorite Films, discusses Roger Ebert's idea of "generosity" in a filmmaker, and demonstrates his appreciation of the film critic's efforts to seriously analyze his 1998 film, Dark City.

Proyas Blames Fox for Silver Surfer Non-Start
Add Alex Proyas to the list of directors who have a beef with Fox: In a recent interview with MTV, he says he won't be directing a "Silver Surfer" movie because he swore off the studio after his experience on "I, Robot."

Proyas Adapting Heinlein's Unpleasant Profession
Alex Proyas has signed on to write and direct an adaptation of the 1942 Robert Heinlein story The Unpleasant Profession of Jonathan Hoag, which is being described as "a complex psychological thriller with plenty of action as well as some love interest."

Alex Proyas to Direct The Silver Surfer?
After having a grand old time shooting "Ghost Rider" in Melbourne, it looks like producer Avi Arad wants to bring more superhero movies down to Austrlia. Plus, word is that an Aussie might be helming the "Silver Surfer" spin-off.

There are at least three sequels that we know are definitely (albeit eventually) arriving. Well, a whole lot more than three, obviously, but this update will focus only on ones that deal with dinosaurs, secret agents, and aggravated vigilantes.

Weekly Ketchup: "Superman Returns"; "World of Warcraft"; "Dark City 2"; R.I.P. Aaron Spelling
In this week's news roundup, the rumor that Steven Spielberg is looking at possibly taking the helm of the movie adaptation of the popular online video game, "World of Warcraft," has been dispelled. Director Alex Proyas drops hints of a "Dark City" sequel, with fellow director Eli Roth ("Cabin Fever," Hostel") exposing his plans to make a "Hostel" sequel from the perspective of the fairer sex.

A Return to "Dark City"??
Filmmaker Alex Proyas recently dropped a little message board hint that should soon overwhelm the moviegeek sites and cause all sorts of feverish chit-chat. The buzz is twofold: 1. Apparently there's a "Dark City" Special Edition DVD on the way from New Line, which isn't all that much of a shock, and 2. Might there be a "Dark City" SEQUEL?
