Amanda de Cadenet (born May 19, 1972) is a British-born actress, and the daughter of British race car driver Alain de Cadenet. She is better known for her personal life than her acting work; she was Courtney Love's best friend for a while, and has been married to Duran Duran's bassist John Taylor, formerly engaged to Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves, and now married to Nick Valensi of The Strokes.
In Britain, de Cadenet is still best known as a "wild child" of the late 1980s when her hedonistic exploits became daily tabloid fodder. Her infamy led her into television work and at seventeen she was hired as co-presenter for The Word, a controversial late-night channel 4 magazine show.
In 1990, she began dating bassist John Taylor of Duran Duran. They were introduced by mutual friend and photographer Denis O'Regan, and married in 1991 after she became pregnant with John's daughter, Atlanta. They then moved to Los Angeles in 1992 to allow de Cadenet to pursue an acting career (and escape the increasingly intrusive British tabloids).
She took several small roles, including some in films by friend and independent film maker Allison Anders. She cultivated a friendship with Courtney Love; the two appeared at an awards show together wearing matching dresses and tiaras. By 1995, de Cadenet's marriage was beginning to disintegrate, and her divorce from Taylor was finalized in 1997. She dated Keanu Reeves intermittently afterwards.
While her acting career essentially stopped in 1999, she has become considerably more successful as a photographer, working for such magazines as Spin, Vogue and Jane, among others. In 2005, de Cadenet published a book entitled Rare Birds, comprised of hundreds of photographs taken over the past decade. Her subjects include Sophie Dahl, Drew Barrymore, Beck Hansen, Nick Valensi, Keanu Reeves, and many others.
In late 2001 she began dating guitarist Nick Valensi of The Strokes, nine years her junior. She has said on her website forum that she gets a hard time from many "malicious and jealous" Strokes fans. They married in 2006. Amanda gave birth to their twins on October 19th 2006, a boy Viktor and a girl Mitzi. She has said she wants to be known for her own work, not for who she's married to.
