Anna Thomas is a vegetarian cookbook author, film director, producer and screenplay writer. She attended the UCLA film school were she wrote and directed The Haunting of M. After graduating in the early seventies she wrote The Vegetarian Epicure, the first comprehensive collection of vegetarian recipes. With her then husband Gregory Nava, she co-wrote the screenplay for El Norte, directed by Nava and produced by Thomas, which was nominated for an Academy Award and is now part of the National Film Registry. Other screenplay collaborations with Nava include My Family, A Time of Destiny, The End of August, The Confessions of Amans and Frida. Anna is a co-founder of the IFP west.
Anna Thomas currently lives in California, teaching at the American Film Institute and writing screenplays as she continues to advocate vegetarian cuisine.
