Arthur Veary Treacher (July 23, 1894 - December 14, 1975) was born in Brighton, East Sussex, England. He was a veteran of World War I.

After the war he established a stage career and in 1928 he went to America as part of a musical-comedy revue called Great Temptations. He began his film career in the 1930's, which included a role in Shirley Temple's A Little Princess. Treacher filled the role of the ideal butler, and he headlined as the famous butler Jeeves in several movies including Thank You Jeeves and Step Lively Jeeves (this gave birth to the Ask Jeeves butler). He also played a butler in numerous other films including: Personal Maids, Mister Cinderella, Bordertown, and Curly Top. Treacher played the role of Constable Jones in Mary Poppins and made many guest appearances on TV, in addition to being Merv Griffin's announcer and sidekick on the The Merv Griffin Show in the mid 1960s and early 1970s.

Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips was a popular restaurant chain in the 1970s named after him, which continues to exist but does not have as many locations as it did in the past.
