Ashutosh Gowariker (Marathi: आशुतोष गोवारीकर)is an Indian actor, writer, producer and director.

Ashutosh started his career as an actor in Ketan Mehta's film Holi in 1984. He then appeared opposite Bhagyashree in a television serial called Kachchi Dhoop in 1987. He also played roles in other serials like Circus and C.I.D.. Ashutosh has also acted in several other films, few of which are Chamatkar (1992) and Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa (1993).

His debut film as a director was Pehla Nasha released in 1993 and then Baazi released in 1995. Both films had average success at the box office.

He then directed the critically acclaimed Lagaan, released in 2001, which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and was one of the highest grossing films of 2001. He then directed Swades, released in 2004, which received mixed reviews by critics and did not do well at the box office. However it is considered to be much more popular overseas. He is known to be an actor's director. Each of his male stars went on to win the Filmfare Best Actor award. Jodha-Akbar is his current project and scheduled for release in 2007.
