Barbara Barrie is the stage name of Barbara Ann Berman (born May 23, 1931), an American actress and author of children's books. She was born in Chicago, Illinois.
Acting career
Barbara Barrie has a lengthy career in film and television, but is probably best known for her roles as Hal Linden's character's wife on Barney Miller, and on Suddenly Susan, in which she played Susan (Brooke Shields)'s grandmother. Most recently, she had a recurring role in the series Dead Like Me.
She was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1980 for her role as Evelyn Stoller, the mother of the main character in Breaking Away.
Writing career
Barrie is the author of two critically acclaimed novels for young adults: Lone Star (1989) and Adam Zigzag (1995).
Personal life
Barrie is married and the mother of two children. She survived a battle with rectal cancer.
