Ben Cohen (born March 18, 1951, in Merrick, New York) of Nancy and Irving Cohen, is a co-founder of Ben & Jerry's, along with Jerry Greenfield. Ben and Jerry met in 1963 in gym class and became close friends in high school.
In 1978 Cohen opened Ben and Jerry's Homemade ice cream scoop shop in Burlington, Vermont with his long-time friend, Jerry Greenfield. They almost opened a bagel shop, but due to the high cost of the equipment that was needed, they choose ice cream instead.
He now runs TrueMajority and Business Leaders for Sensible Priorities.
Cohen is vocal in his support of Democratic candidates. He supported Dennis Kucinich in the 2004 Democratic primaries.
"Business has a responsibility to give back to the community from which it draws its support."
