Chantal Akerman (born June 6 1950) is a Belgian filmmaker and director based in Paris, who is known for her deconstructive style and pessimistic humour. Her films represent her observations of identity, sexuality, and politics.

Chantal Akermans's parents are Holocaust - survivors from Poland. She dissociated itself also in the picture language and technology at first radically from the usual maintaining telling cinema. Film installation From the OTHER side (2002) was presented on documenta 11. Akerman is a professor of film at the European Graduate School in Saas-Fee, Switzerland where she conducts a summer workshop.
