Robert Charles Evans M.D., DSc, Knight, (1918 - 1995), was a mountaineer and educator.

Born in Liverpool, a fluent Welsh speaker. Schooled in Shrewsbury and attended Oxford University and qualified in 1943 having studied medicine. He travelled in the Sikim Himalaya during the war when on vacation. Climbed many of the classic routes in the Alps and put this experience to good use when in the Annapurna HImalaya.

Charles Evans was the deputy leader to John Hunt on the first ascent of Everest in 1953. Where his scientific knowledge of the use of Oxygen was crucial.

Evans was also the leader of the expedition that summited Kangchenjunga in 1955 for the first time.

In 1959 he became the Principal of University North Wales, Bangor.

President of the Alpine Club from 1967 to 1970.
