Charles Puffy Biography

A former champion swimmer, stage actor, and musical comedy writer, Karl Huszar (born Karoly Huszar) had appeared in the German Der Mude Tod (1921) and Dr. Marbuse, Der Spieler (1922) before embarking on a Hollywood career. Changing his name to Charles Puffy, the portly character actor played in such films as The Love Thief (1926) and The Private Life of Helen of Troy (1927) but returned to Germany at the advent of sound. As Karl Huszar-Puffy, he continued his screen career playing the innkeeper in Der Blaue Engel (1930) and appearing in a host of minor German films before returning to his home country of Hungary. Oddly, the veteran supporting player died in Tokyo, Japan. ~ Hans J. Wollstein, Rovi
