Daniel Dare Biography

Choreographer Daniel Dare directed dance routines for some of Hollywood's biggest musicals, including 52nd Street (1937) and Holiday Inn (1942). His other achievements include creating dance numbers for Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby on such films as Panama Hattie (1942) and Star Spangled Rhythm (1942). For having assisted in the theatrical production Meet the People (1939), Dare was to have been blacklisted by the House Un-American Activities Committee in the 1950s, but rather than face the consequences of being blackballed, Dare renounced all leftist affiliations and became a friendly witness against other accused people. In 1963, Dare and Sammy Lewis opened a chain of theaters in California. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi
