Dorothy Alison Biography

Australian stage and film actress Dorothy Alison arrived in London in 1949, working as a secretary while scouting out acting jobs. Alison's best-remembered film assignments include Miss Stockton, the sympathetic but no-nonsense teacher of deaf child Mandy Miller, in Crash of Silence (1952) and the courageous Nurse Brace in the wartime drama Reach for the Sky (1957). She gained a worldwide following in the early '80s for her work in the TV series A Town Like Alice. Dorothy Alison's final film appearance was in, appropriately enough, 1989's Australia. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
