Frances Fisher (born 11 May, 1952 in Milford on Sea, Hampshire, England) is an English actress resident in the United States.
Before she reached the age of 15, Fisher moved nine times with her father who supervised construction in multiple countries.http://www.museumofthegulfcoast.org/Content/Personalities/Notable_People/Frances_Fisher Upon completing high school in Orange, Texas, Fisher worked as a secretary until she moved to Virginia to perform at the Barter Theatre. A short time later, she would move again to New York City where she first made a name for herself playing Deborah Saxon on the soap opera The Edge of Night from 1976 to 1981; Fisher then spend the next 10 years playing in theatre in New York and regional theatre all over the East Coast. Ms. Fisher was cast as Lucille Ball in the television movie Lucy & Desi: Before the Laughter, which aired to strong ratings and good reviews in 1991. Check www.IMDb.com for all details.
She has played numerous roles on American television, including parts in the series Strange Luck, Becker, and Titus. She also played a key role in the recent television drama The Lyon's Den and "Glory Days".
Her most famous role, however, has been that of society matron Ruth DeWitt Bukater, the mother of Rose DeWitt Bukater (played by Kate Winslet), in the 1997 movie blockbuster Titanic
Ms. Fisher has appeared in another Academy Awarded film, "House of Sand and Fog, and has wrapped four films this year. Not mentioned are her numerous theatre credits, which are the bulk of her resume: Latest are the last play written by Arthur Miller, "Finishing the Picture" @ the Goodman Theatre in Chicago, and "The Cherry Orchard", @ the Mark at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles in 2006.
Fisher is working on four films in 2006, including Pete Berg's "The Kingdom", and Paul Haggis's "In the Valley of Elah", in addition to a pilot for NBC/USA, whose title is to be decided.
