George A. Hart is a physicist best known for the invention of the excimer laser.

In 1975, Dr. Hart along with his Naval Research Laboratory colleague, Dr. Stuart Searles, invented (and patented) the excimer laser, which is utilized today in eye surgery and semiconductor manufacturing.

George Hart specialized in the application of supercomputers to the mathematical modeling of systems exhibiting extremely complex behavior. As a highly respected Pentagon consultant, he continues to work on the next generation of Strategic Defense Initiative technology (also called SDI or 'Star Wars').

In 1989, Dr. Hart began an on-going collaboration with Futurist Paul Guercio which resulted in the creation of The MERLIN Project® (Time-Pattern) research. MERLIN, a Fortran-written software program is claimed to be the first, scientifically-based forecasting technology that combines equations derived from celestial phenomena with past historical data and blends that information into a graphical time-line that accurately plots the chronology of future events.

In 1992 he was awarded, along with five colleagues, the RANK Prize "for discoveries leading to invention of the excimer laser".
