Grant Shaud (born Edward Shaud III on February 27, 1961) is an American actor best known for playing the character of Miles Silverberg on the 1990s TV sitcom Murphy Brown.
Early life
Grant Shaud was born in Evanston, Illinois and raised in Radnor, Pennsylvania. He attended Conestoga High School. In 1983, he graduated with a Journalism degree from the University of Richmond.
Career
In 1984, Shaud moved to New York City to begin working in theater. His first acting role in television was as a guest character named Jack on the show Kate & Allie. In 1988, he began his most successful role as Miles Silverberg on the CBS television comedy Murphy Brown. He lived with co-star Jane Leeves before and during her guest stint on the show, in which she concurrently played his girlfriend. He has the unfortunate distinction of being perhaps the only member of the main cast, including a few important guests, not to be nominated for an Emmy.Emmy Awards database He left in 1996 with his "boss" role on the show being taken over by Lily Tomlin. She also received no nominations for her work on the show.
In recent years he has also done some voice-over work in animation, most notably in the film Antz and the television series Batman: The Animated Series. He had a notable guest role in The Drew Carey Show as a character, again named Jack, who believed himself to be the devil. He also played the role of Alex Rosetti in a short-lived television comedy called Madigan Men, starring Gabriel Byrne.
