Necronomicon was the first published compendium of images by the Swiss artist H. R. Giger. It was originally published in 1977, and the book was given to director Ridley Scott during the pre-production of the film Alien, who then hired Giger to produce artwork and conceptual designs for the film.
H.R. Giger also known as Hans Rudi Giger was born 5 February 1940. He is a Swiss surrealist painter, a sculptor, and a set designer. He who won an Academy Award for Best Achievement for Visual Effects for his design work on the film Alien.
