Interview: Jack Black on Bernie
Jack Black and Richard Linklater need to do more movies together. The actor and director first collaborated on 2003's wonderfully pitched crowd pleaser The School of Rock, and their reunion for this week's dark comedy Bernie has yielded what might be Black's best performance since that film. In a strange-but-true story set in Carthage, Texas, Black plays soft-spoken Bernie Tiede, the small town's beloved mortician who befriends its most despised citizen: wealthy, cantankerous old Marjorie (Shirley MacLaine). When Bernie bumps her off, the locals rally around their folk hero, much to the chagrin of prosecutor Matthew McConaughey (working with Linklater for the first time since Dazed and Confused). Five Favourite Films with Richard Curtis
Richard Curtis has a plan. "What I've decided is to choose recent films," he explains to RT. "I do think that often people get stuck in always saying the five greatest films of all time, films they saw between the ages of seventeen and twenty-two, because that's when you're forming your opinions. I think I'll talk about modern films, which aren't necessarily the greatest films ever made, but are five great films." Box Office Guru Preview: Proposal and Year One Bring More Laughs
Five of the top six films are comedies right now but Hollywood believes that's not enough so two new laughers open on Friday to give moviegoers even more options. Sandra Bullock headlines the phony engagement pic The Proposal while Jack Black and Michael Cera star in the lowbrow flick Year One targeting an audience that is younger and more male. The overall marketplace will need to work hard to avoid posting its fourth consecutive down weekend versus last year.

The Many Faces of Jack Black
Whether it expresses befuddlement, exuberance, or just plain goofiness, Jack Black's countenance is one of the most expressive and distinctive in contemporary movies. With Year One hitting theaters this week, we at RT thought it would be a good time to take a look at the many faces of Black. Even in his debut movie role, the political satire Bob Roberts, Black had already perfected his patented mugging. And as with later roles, he played a young man who paid tribute to his musical heroes, in this case, the folk singing right-wing politician of the title. In High Fidelity, Black nearly stole the show as a vulgar, hyper-opinionated record store clerk.

Kong to Receive Special Honor at the Critics' Choice Awards
The big ape will be getting a special award at the 11th annual Critics' Choice Awards on January 9, 2006, the Broadcast Film Critics Association announced.
