Jan Sverák Biography

He started study on Prague's Film Unviversity in 1983 in section Documentary film. His famous school works are "Vesmirna odyssea II. (1986)" and "Ropaci (1988)". For the second of them, an ecolo- gical documentary short film he became in 1988 the award "Stu - dent Academy Award - Oscar" in USA. Since his graduation in 1988 he has made only the big hits in Box Office Czech Republik. His debut movie "Obecna skola (1991)" was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. His second movie "Jizda (1994)" won the Best Picture Award on festival in Karlovy Vary. His last film "Akumulator 1 (1994)" was the most expensive Czech film of all times and also the most visited film in czech cinemas in 1994.
