Jorge Garcia (born April 28, 1973) is an American actor and comedian. He first came to public attention with his performance as Hector Lopez on the show Becker, and currently stars as Hugo "Hurley" Reyes in the American television series Lost. Garcia also performs as a stand-up comedian.
Garcia was born in Omaha, Nebraska of Chilean and Cuban descent. He grew up in Southern California and went to San Clemente High School. As a senior, he was selected by the faculty as "Triton of the Year", the highest award given to a graduating senior.
Garcia was the first actor to be cast on Lost. He was cast on Lost because producers saw him on Curb Your Enthusiasm the night before casting began. The creators wrote in a character specifically for him. Garcia had to miss his sister's wedding back on the mainland because he was shooting Lost over in Hawaii. He was also a prominent character in Troma Studio's film, Tales from the Crapper. The film is notable for Garcia's portrayal of a raccoon-headed young man who is unlucky in love.
Garcia has appeared in the second episode of the eighth season of Celebrity Poker Showdown. He went on to lose to Michael Ian Black.
