Edinburgh 2009: RT's 10 Must-See Movies

The Edinburgh Film Festival has come to a close and Rotten Tomatoes thought we'd make a traditional look back over all of the films playing at this year's fest and present to you - in strictly alphabetical order - our 10 must-sees. As a public-facing festival, Edinburgh's selection attempts to combine the accessible with the artistic, and delivers a collection of movies both diverse and outstanding. From spoof comedies to harsh drama, from in-depth documentaries to cutting-edge animation, Edinburgh dares to be different and programmes a festival that's at turns youthful and experienced, offering movies for just about any cinemagoer imaginable. And for us, it's two weeks of life in dark rooms -- just how we like it.

Edinburgh 2009: Humpday wins RT Award

Humpday, directed by Lynn Shelton, has become the second ever winner of the Rotten Tomatoes Critical Consensus Award, it was announced today at an awards ceremony in Edinburgh. Presented as part of the Edinburgh Film Festival, the event also honoured Moon, Easier With Practice and The Secret of Kells, while Katie Jarvis wins the Best Performance in a British Feature Film award for her role in Fish Tank. The Rotten Tomatoes Critical Consensus Award is presented to a film in the festival's Director's Showcase category, which is narrowed down to a shortlist of five by RT's UK team and EIFF Artistic Director Hannah McGill. This year's nominees were Stella, The Missing Person, I'm Going to Explode, Adventureland and Humpday.

Shot on a budget of just $22,000 by film school graduates Eduardo Sánchez and Daniel Myrick, The Blair Witch Project premiered at the Sundance Film Festival ten years ago this month and started a journey that dominated public consciousness for most of the year. Now, ten years on, RT presents exclusive behind-the-scenes footage sharing the genesis of the film from auditions through to production and revealing the method and planning behind the film's improvisational approach.
