June Anderson (born December 30, 1952) is an American coloratura soprano.
She was born in Boston, Massachusetts and raised in Wallingford, Connecticut. She attended Lyman Hall High School where she was the 5th highest in adademic standing among 505 graduates in the class of 1970. She started studying voice at 11 and was the youngest finalist up to that time in the Metropolitan Opera auditions at 17.
She received a degree from Yale University in French, and then decided to pursue a career in singing. She had numerous auditions but no engagements at first. She continued her pursuit as a challenge, giving herself a deadline of two years (after which she would, if unsuccessful, enter law school). Robert Leonard in New York City, was her singing teacher.
She made her professional opera debut as the Queen of the Night in Mozart's The Magic Flute at the New York City Opera in 1978. She made her European debut in the title role of Rossini's Semiramide in Rome in 1982. Since then, she has sung in most of the major opera houses of the world and has had an extensive recording career.
Originally known for bel canto performances of Bellini and Donizetti, she has extended her repertoire to include a wide variety of roles, most recently Richard Strauss's Daphne, which she performed in Venice in June 2005.
She makes her home in Paris, but maintains apartments in various cities in which she performs regularly.
