Justin Jake Long (born June 2 1978) is an American actor, best known for his roles in Ed and Dodgeball. He personifies a Macintosh computer in Apple's 2006 "Get a Mac" advertisement campaign.
Biography
Early life
Long was born in Fairfield, Connecticut to a Catholic family.http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Interview-Justin-Long-3173.html His mother, Wendy, is an actress, and his father, R. James Long, is a philosophy teacher at Fairfield University. He has two brothers, an older brother named Damian and a younger brother named Christian. He attended Fairfield College Preparatory School, a Jesuit school in Fairfield where he was given the "Most Likely Not To Be Seen In Class" superlative, and was a member of Vassar College's Class of 2000. His bio on the Galaxy Quest DVD states that his early acting work was in sketch comedy.
Career
Long's notable film credits include Jeepers Creepers, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, Crossroads, Galaxy Quest and Waiting.... He was also a regular on the NBC TV series Ed (2000–2004), playing socially maladjusted high-school student Warren Cheswick. He has also appeared in the movies The Break-Up and played the main character in the 2006 comedy film Accepted. He has just been selected to co-star with Bruce Willis and play a "white-hat hacker" in the new Die Hard 4 movie named Live Free or Die Hard.http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Mac-Computer-And-Maggie-Q-For-Die-Hard-4-3468.html He plays a fairly prominient role in the upcoming movie The Sasquatch Dumpling Gang, a spiritual sequel to Napoleon Dynamite.
In the spring of 2006, Justin co-starred with author and Daily Show "Resident Expert" John Hodgman in the "Get a Mac" advertising campaign for Apple Computer. The campaign features fifteen commercials in which Long plays a Mac computer and Hodgman plays a PC, both engaged in playful banter about "the strengths of the Mac platform and perceived weaknesses of the PC platform."McNamara, Mary. On November 8th, 2006 RadarOnline reported Justin Long will no longer be the face of the Macintosh when shooting resumes for a new set of the commercials. They said an unnamed representative for Long confirmed this. Subsequently, they printed an "update" where they did name a source, Long's agent, as saying that Long is in fact doing more Mac ads.
Justin Long has denied these rumors and stated that he will continue to do Apple advertisements.http://www.justinlong.net/ubbthreads7/ubbthreads.php He has since appeared in three additional "Get a Mac" ads since the publication of the rumor.
Trivia
- Can do many impressions and did some of them when he was a guest on Conan.
- Before appearing in the "Get a Mac" ad campaign, he did not own a computer. Long now uses a Mac.
