Larry Manetti (born July 23, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American actor best known for his starring role as Orville "Rick" Wright on the long-running television show Magnum P.I. which starred Tom Selleck as the title character.
Early Life
Manetti was born and raised Chicago, Illinois where he studied acting with the Ted List Players. He is married to actress Nancy DeCarl, and has a son in 1980, Lorenzo Manetti. He speaks Italian very well and was a foster-son of Frank Sinatra.
Career
Manetti's first television role was as a young detective in Jack Webb's The Chase (1974). He next played hot shot pilot Bobby Boyle in Baa Baa Black Sheep (1976-78) with his half-brother Robert Conrad. His work impressed enough that he landed his own series with NBC. Called The Duke (1979), it featured Manetti as a boxer turned restaurateur turned detective and lasted just five episodes. Manetti's signature role on Magnum P.I. lasted for the entire eight year run of the series (1980-88). He has also done co-starring roles in 25 feature films and guest starred on many other television shows, including Battlestar Galactica, Quantum Leap, JAG and Walker, Texas Ranger.
Other Works
He is the author of the semi-autobiographical Aloha Magnum built around his time on Magnum P.I. and anecdotes about fellow cast members and celebrities such as Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley and Michelle Pfeiffer.
