Lucy Davis (born 2 January 1973) is an English actress. She is best known for playing the character Dawn Tinsley in the BBC comedy, The Office.
Davis played Maria Lucas in the BBC's 1995 production of Pride and Prejudice. She has also appeared in the films Sex Lives of the Potato Men (2004), had a main role in Shaun of the Dead (2004), and played Hayley Jordan in The Archers on BBC Radio 4. She gave up the latter role when her other acting responsibilities made it impossible to continue; the part was recast in September 2005.
She was reportedly[1] offered the role in In Her Shoes that eventually went to Toni Collette, although it has been suggested [2] that she merely auditioned for the role.
Davis' newest roles appear to be the pseudo-TV Host for the snarky 'Fashion TV' on ABC's hit Ugly Betty and a writer of the fictional sketch comedy show portrayed on NBC's Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.
In 1997 Davis underwent a kidney transplant after being diagnosed with kidney failure during a physical leading up to her role in Pride & Prejudice. The kidney was donated by her mother, Hazel. [3]. She was hospitalized again around Christmas 2005 with another round of kidney failure, but has since recovered. Davis also is a diabetic. [4]
Her father is the comedian Jasper Carrott (real name Robert Davis).
