, née Makiko Hirano (å¹³é??ç??ç´?å? Hirano Makiko, born 18 December 1966 in Shimane, Japan) is a Japanese model and actress.
Esumi began her career as a volleyball player but after being injured was discovered by a talent scout in hospital. Her screen debut was in Hirokazu Koreeda's Maborosi, though she is probably best known for her role as Tsuboi Chinatsu on the TV drama Shomuni. She also appeared on government advertisements about pension contributions.
In 2005 she gave birth to her first child and wrote a children's book.
