Marilyn Chambers (born Marilyn Ann Briggs, April 22, 1952, in Westport, Connecticut, USA) is an adult film actress best known for her performances in the porn movies Behind the Green Door (1972) and Insatiable (1980).

Chambers was the first woman in the porn industry to actually make considerable amounts of money and achieve any appreciable degree of power in the industry. She is regarded as the precursor to and role model for such modern female porn-industry titans as Jenna Jameson.

Career

Chambers first came to the public's attention at age seventeen as the cover girl on the Ivory Snow soap box, where she posed holding a baby. (According to some urban legends, she was the baby; this turned out to be false, as was the claim that the baby was Brooke Shields.) The product's manufacturer, Procter & Gamble quickly dropped Chambers after it discovered her double life as an adult film actress.

For Behind the Green Door, Chambers asked the Mitchell brothers, Artie and Jim, for a percentage of the gross, never expecting that they would agree. After filming concluded, she dropped the Ivory Snow bomb shell, which resulted in her being billed, the "99 and 44/100 pure" girl. In Behind the Green Door, Chambers engaged in explicit interracial sex with the African-American actor, Johnny Keyes, creating somewhat of a controversy.

Eventually, mainstream films noticed Chambers, and in 1977, she got a part in David Cronenberg's Rabid.

She was one of the first female stars to shave her pubic area, a practice now routine in preparation for a porn film. She was also one of the first porn actresses to have her genitals pierced; she was photographed with a one-inch gold ring in her right inner labium well before this trend crossed over to the mainstream in the 1990s. Chambers continues to appear in porn films for such companies as Naughty America and MILF Hunter, happily cashing in on the lucrative MILF market. Later in her career, Chambers had a series of breast enhancements taking her from a B-cup to at least a D.

From 1975 to 1985, Chambers was married to porn producer/director, Chuck Traynor and gave birth to a daughter. It was during this marriage that she acquired an interest in motorcycle riding. Chambers divorced Traynor in 1985.

On February 1, 1985, the Mitchell Brothers O'Farrell Theatre, a strip club in San Francisco, was raided by twelve police officers during one of Chambers's performances and she was arrested for lewd conduct and prostitution (she had walked nude through the audience after her striptease); the District Attorney later declined to press charges.Police Motives Questioned in Coast Vice Raid. Some years ago while fueling her motorcycle, Chambers severely burned her legs on the engine and muffler. Thereafter, few of her movies would expose her legs or feet. Instead, they focus on unscarred body parts.

• In the 2004 United States presidential election, Chambers ran for Vice President on the Personal Choice Party ticket, a quasi-libertarian party. She received a total of 946 votes.
• In 2000, Tracy Hutson played Chambers in the Mitchell Brothers' made-for-cable biopic, Rated X.
• As of October 2006, she resides with her daughter McKenna Marie Taylor.
• Chambers is believed to be the first adult movie star to have both nipples and both labia minora pierced.
