Mark Baxter (1951–May 30 2005) was the director of the Maguire Energy Institute at SMU's Cox School of Business from 2001 until his death.
Born in Galesburg, Illinois, he received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois in 1974. Afterwards, he worked for the Marathon Oil Company, working especially in Russia and in the North Sea.
