Michael C. Hall (born February 1 1971) is an American actor.

Born in Raleigh, North Carolina, Hall graduated from Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana, in 1993. He later attended New York University's Master of Fine Arts program in New York City. Off-Broadway, he appeared on-stage in Macbeth and Cymbeline at the New York Shakespeare Festival, and in Timon of Athens and Henry V at the New York Public Theater, The English Teachers at the Manhattan Class Company, and the controversial play Corpus Christi at the Manhattan Theatre Club. He also performed in the workshop production of what was then known as Sondheim's Wise Guys, which has metamorphosed into Bounce.He sang the role of Paris Singer; this character's songs and function in the play were transferred to a character, Hollis Bessamer, which was Sondheim's first gay role, played by Gavin Creel.

In Los Angeles he appeared in Skylight at the Mark Taper Forum. On Broadway he appeared as the Emcee in Cabaret at Studio 54.

Hall married actress Amy Spanger in 2002, and appeared with her on Broadway in the musical Chicago.

He is best known as the gay undertaker, David Fisher, in the HBO series Six Feet Under. In addition to five seasons of Six Feet Under, he has been seen on film in Paycheck and Bereft.

Hall is currently starring in his own Showtime television series, Dexter, which revolves around a Miami police forensics expert who is also a serial killer who only murders those who have escaped justice. The series premiere aired on October 1, 2006.
