James Gunn Builds a Super Cast
"Slither" director James Gunn's next project, titled "Super," is living up to its name in the casting department: Gunn has just added Nathan Fillion and Linda Cardellini to a group that already included Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, Liv Tyler, and Kevin Bacon.

Johnny Depp to Grab a Fistful of Quarters?
Even for the age of unlikely remakes and strange adaptations, this one is sort of a doozy, but see if you can follow along: The recently released documentary The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters -- which looks at the bewilderingly intense real-life rivalry between the two men battling over the scoring record for Donkey Kong -- has already been established as one of the summer's most pleasant critical surprises, shooting up to 97 percent on the Tomatometer. And now the filmmakers want to follow it up with...a King of Kong dramatization?

Man Charged In Death of Actress Adrienne Shelly
A 19 year-old construction worker has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of actress Adrienne Shelly, according to the New York Times. Shelly, who starred in Hal Hartley's "Trust" and "The Unbelievable Truth" as well as this year's "Factotum," was 40.

"Serenity" Star Hears Sequel "Noise"

SXSW Promises Vendettas, Betties, Dreamz & Slithers
In addition to a ton of low-budget, independent, documentary, and dramatic films, this year's South By Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival promises a rather flashy infusement of high-end studio fare, too! So while it's always important to shed some attention on the little guys (which we'll be doing soon enough), it's also fun to note that SXSW will be offering high-end "gimme" titles like "V for Vendetta," "The Notorious Bettie Page," "American Dreamz," and the geekily-anticipated "Slither."

You know what a "red band" trailer is, right? Just in case you don't, it's pretty much the equivalent of an R-rated trailer, in that it contains stuff kiddies just shouldn't see, and therefore can only be viewed when attached to an R-rated movie. According to fan-favorite Joss Whedon, the creator of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel," the all-new trailer for his big-screen "Firefly" adventure (entitled "Serenity") will debut today at the Apple / Quicktime trailers page at approximately 4:00 PM (eastern). Based on the short-lived, yet widely-admired science fiction series, "Serenity" will be a big-screen adventure that mixes sci-fi adventure with a decidedly Western motif.
