Neil Tolkin is a American screen writer from Montreal.

Career

Tolkin worked as a writer for National Lampoon magazine in the 1980s. It was one of his failed articles that caught the attention of a film producer that saw that part of the article could be potential for a film. Tolkin then adapted parts of the article to write the screenplay for popular 1988 comedy License to Drive.

Tolkin would then distance himself from the film industry but returned in the mid 1990s with a string of successful comedy films including Ri¢hie Ri¢h and Jury Duty as well as Sticks and Stones which he also directed.

After flying home from the Boston film festival that he discovered the short story The Palace Thief. He adapted this to a film titled The Emperor's Club in 2002.
