Paprika Steen (b. Copenhagen, 3 November 1964) is a Danish actress best known for her appearances in Festen, The Idiots and Open Hearts. She has won several awards and is the first actress to win both Best Actress (for Okay) and Best Supporting Actress (Open Hearts) in the same year at the Robert Festival, the Danish equivalent of the Oscars, since Karin Nellemose in 1949. She also appeared in the first three Dogme films, The Idiots, Festen and Mifune, the only cast member to do so.
Steen applied thirteen times to the Acting School of Odense Theatre before being accepted. However since her success in the Dogme films she has worked consistently and is one of the most highly regarded contemporary Danish actresses. She made her directorial debut in 2004 with the film Aftermath.
