Sir Patrick Duncan (1870-1943) was Governor General of the Union of South Africa between 1937 and 1943. During a political crisis over South Africa's participation in World War II, he refused a dissolution of parliament requested by Prime Minister Hertzog and thus returned Jan Smuts to power.
His son, also called Patrick Duncan (d.1967), was a well-known anti-apartheid activist.
