Paula Korologos Cale (born June 2, 1970 in Great Falls, VA) is an American actress, who played Joanie Hansen on the TV series Providence and daughter of Tom C. Korologos, the U.S. Ambassador to Belgium.

Biography

Born to Tom C. Korologos (a Greek American) and Joy, the youngest of three children; Paula, Ann and Philip, the conservative republican family lived in Great Falls, VA, 10 miles outside of Washington, DC. Paula grew up in DC where her father, Tom, now the U.S. Ambassador to Belgium, worked as a top Capitol Hill lobbyist, a congressional liaison during the Nixon and Ford presidential administrations, and has worked closely with President George W. Bush. Her mother was a homemaker and chairwoman of the Fairfax County school board. Cale graduated from Langley High School in 1988 and went to study teaching at Vanderbilt University but instead earned a BFA in acting from DePaul University.

Currently Cale resides in Los Angeles, where she performs volunteer work for her church and also enjoys puttering in her flower garden, watching sports and taking as many as three bubble baths a day. She also vows to return to teaching elementary school sometime in the future. In 1997 Paula's mother, Joy, died from brain cancer.

Career

With her interest mostly in acting, after one year at Vanderbilt University Cale left and transferred to study at Chicago's prestigious Goodman School of Theatre (now known as The Theatre School), where she won a scholarship to study drama. She originated the role of Suzanne in the Steppenwolf Theatre production of Steve Martin's "Picasso at the Lapin Agile" and came to Los Angeles with the production in 1995, where Candice Bergen spotted her and later offered Cale the recurring role of McGovern, an MTV-ish reporter in Murphy Brown.

Soon after, Cale was starring in two different comedies on two different networks simultaneously. She played a sassy waitress in Local Heroes and portrayed the neurotic wife of comedian Dave Chappelle in Buddies. She then went to New York to appear in numerous stage shows, appearing on Broadway in "Night of the Iguana" and followed by playing her favorite role as Gilda Radner in Broadway's "Bunny, Bunny". When she returned to Los Angeles, she guest-starred in two episodes of NBC's The Naked Truth as Tea Leoni's sister and Cybill.

After a successful career as a television and Broadway actor, she first hesitated when asked to audition for the drama Providence. Cale weaved both comedic and dramatic elements in her character Joanie, of an unwed mother in Providence. In 2005 Cole was slated to co-star in a new ABC sitcom In the Game before the show was cancelled.
