Cheryl "Rainbeaux" Smith (June 6, 1955--October 25, 2002) was an American actor. She is best known for her role in the exploitation film Caged Heat
She was born Cheryl Lynn Smith in Los Angeles, California. Her year of birth has been variously listed as 1955 and 1957 (1955 is the date shown on her gravestonehttp://www.rainbeauxsmith.com/gravemarker.html. She made her first film appearance in the short The Birth of Aphrodite, after a friend of her mother suggested her for the role. This led to roles in other films, including the cult classic B-movies Caged Heat, Phantom of the Paradise, The Swinging Cheerleaders, Revenge of the Cheerleaders, and The Pom Pom Girls. She also started in the cult horror film Lemora; the DVD, released by Synapse Films in 2002, is dedicated to her.
Smith's film career effectively ended after she became addicted to heroin in the late 1970s. In the late 1980s she was arrested several times for drug-related offenses, and twice served time in prison. After her release, she was homeless for some time, and was often hospitalized for problems stemming from her addiction.
Smith died in Los Angeles on October 25, 2002. The cause of death was hepatitis, brought on by her years of drug abuse.
