Robin Mattson (born June 1, 1956 in Los Angeles) is an American soap opera actress.

She is arguably the best known character actress on daytime serials, with all of her roles proving to be extremely popular, yet none of them were especially unique from the others: she was typically cast in supporting, "villainess" type roles.

Mattson's soap roles include:

  • Hope Bauer on The Guiding Light (1976-1977).
  • Heather Webber on General Hospital (1980-1983 and from June to December 2004).
  • Delia Reid on Ryan's Hope (1984).
  • Gina Blake Timmons on Santa Barbara (1985-1993).
  • Janet Green (Jane Cox) on All My Children (1994-2000).
  • She also had a brief role as "Sugar" on The Bold and the Beautiful in 2003.

Robin acted in the romantic comedy movie The Last Guy on Earth (2006) (post production).

Trivia

  • Her nutty character on All My Children was referred to by other characters as well as television columnists as 'Janet from Another Planet'. She is also credited for being largely responsible for Janet's eventual reformation into a devoted wife and loving mother.
  • Janet was not originally supposed to pull a gun on Trevor and Laurel at the wedding chapel, but was instead going to plant a bomb. However with the Oklahoma City bombing being so close together with the time the storyline was scheduled to air, the plot was quickly changed. Mattson herself delivered an on-air announcement regarding the change to the story.
  • Mattson is a gourmet cook. She co-authored the cook book Soap Opera CafĂ© : The Skinny on Food from a Daytime Star.
  • In 2005, she became engaged to former soccer player Werner Roth.
