Scott Burns (born December 23, 1974) is an Australian rules footballer in the Australian Football League.

A veteran it comes as a surprise as the boy from Norwood was picked up by the Magpies at ninety overall in the 1992 National Draft. He has become a great player in the late 1990s and new millennium in the Black and White. He made his début in 1995, two years after being drafted, because he had to move from South Australia. He played every game except one for the season, and proved he would be worth the wait as a tough and fierce small defender. It was 1996 however when he showed his true potential, coming second in the best and fairest and also represented South Australia in State of Origin. He could find the ball at half-back and his work ethic was at a high rate. In 1997 he suffered a groin injury which forced him to only manage fourteen games, and then early on in 1998 he missed most of the first half of the season due to a broken arm, then two weeks later he received a two weeks suspension from the tribunal. He played fourteen games once again, and to further extent, he was on the end of a Nathan Buckley full force punt which knocked him out.

He was appointed vice captain in 1999, as a leader of the club, he was perfect due to his determination and work ethic at both ends of the ground and in the midfield. He became a fine utility, but in 2001 he was once again forced out with re-occurring hamstring injuries, and was limited to eight games. 2002 saw the Pies make the Grand Final, and Burns played a magnificent season, shown by coming runner-up in the best and fairest once again. As a veteran of the club, he was only experiencing his first final when he played against Port Adelaide. He had 505 disposals for the season and was a dominant midfielder come forward, as he kicked twenty eight goals in the season.

2003 was another ground-breaking year for the experienced Burns. He played a tremendous season coming third in the best and fairest, and his finals series was fantastic, and was one of the better players on a black Grand Final day, as the Pies lost for the second consecutive year. Injuries once again got hold of Burns in 2004 but he still managed to play nineteen games, but his age showed, as he turned thirty. 2005 also was a sign of things to expect, but his experience was an asset to the team, as was his leadership. He played every game in the year, and still had an under-rated season (just like his career), with regular performances.
