Stacey Dash (born January 20, 1966 in The Bronx, New York) is an American film and television actress of African American and Native American descent. She is best known for her role as high school student Dionne Davenport in the 1995 film and TV series Clueless.
Career
Dash started her career as a child actor on the television series Sesame Street. She later appeared in shows such as the Cosby Show where she acted beside close friend Lisa Bonet, and Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.Stacey Dash at Hollywood.com. Dash's first major film role was in the Richard Pryor comedy Moving in 1988. An important if obscure film for Dash is entitled "Black Water" starring Julian Sands and Johnny Cash. She also had sizable roles in Mo' Money and Renaissance Man during this time. But Dash received her big break with the film Clueless with Alicia Silverstone. Dash played the teenager Dionne Marie Davenport even though she was 29 at the time. Dash looked much younger than her age and was able to pull off the role.
The film eventually spawned a television spinoff in 1996 titled Clueless. The series, which lacked Silverstone, eventually was cancelled in 1999. Stacey then went on to play Vanessa Weir in the television series The Strip. However, it was not a success and was cancelled after a handful of episodes.
Post-Clueless
After the TV series Clueless, Dash's career went dormant while she focused her energies on her growing family. Her credits include View from the Top and many little known movies, including Gang Of Roses, with Monica Calhoun, Lisa Raye, and Lil' Kim, and Getting Played with Vivica A. Fox, Bill Bellamy, and Carmen Electra. She has also appeared in small guest roles on TV shows such as Eve and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
In 2004, Dash was featured in a music video by Kanye West, label mate of cousin Damon Dash, for the single "All Falls Down." At the age of 40, Dash posed in the August 2006 issue of Playboy She is also featured in the upcoming Michelle Pfeiffer film I Could Never Be Your Woman.
In 2006 Stacey was featured as the "favorite girl" in Marques Houston's song, "Favorite Girl".
Personal life
Dash is the cousin of Damon Dash, the former CEO and co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records. Stacey was a close friend of Damon's late fiancee Aaliyah. She's a sister of both Darien Dash (Brother) and Tia Gordon (Younger Half Sister). Stacey was married to Brian Lowell (they met on the set of Clueless) in July 1999. Her brother, Darien Dash, is the CEO of DME Interactive Holdings, the first publicly traded African-American owned internet company.
Stacey Dash has two children—a son born in 1981 and a young daughter whose paternity has never been publicly discussed by the star.
