Zack Snyder (born March 1, 1966, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA) is an American film director.

Early career

Snyder started out as both director and cinematographer of music videos (for Morrissey) and commercials (Compuware, Audi, Budweiser, Jeep). He also created dynamic portraits of sports icons such as Michael Jordan, Martina Navratilova and Troy Aikman for clients Nike and Reebok and he completed a spot for Titleist featuring David Duval, Dan Marino and David Robinson, among others.

Snyder's work has garnered numerous awards including two Clios. He received a Gold Lion Award at Cannes for his Jeep “Frisbee” spot. His wickedly funny and irreverent spot "Russian Generals", filmed on location in England, attracted the attention of the London advertising community, from which he received an award. Most recently, Snyder completed the 2003 Subaru campaign featuring seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong.

Feature films

Dawn of the Dead

Tired of having to travel around the world for his work, he finally made the transition to feature films with his first film Dawn of the Dead. Snyder's eclectic style ensured the film was a commercial and a critical success and fans of the original film largely gave good reviews.

300

His most recent film is an adaptation of Frank Miller's 300 and will be released to theaters in March 2007.

Watchmen

He is directing the big screen adaptation of Alan Moore's graphic novel Watchmen for Warner Bros.

Rainbow Six

He has also replaced John Woo as the director on the adaptation of Tom Clancy's bestseller Rainbow Six.[1]

Cobalt 60

On October 25, 2006, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Universal Pictures had acquired the rights to adapt Cobalt 60 into a film with director Snyder attached to the project. He and his wife, Debbie Snyder, will also produce the film. A search for a writer is underway.[2]
