Joe Lozito

Biography:
Big Picture Big Sound co-founder Joe Lozito has been a fan and critic of movies since a very early age. At the age of 10, he was keeping his movie ticket stubs in a photo album with what would later be called “capsule reviews” written underneath. Why he was seeing so many movies at that age is better left to the therapist’s couch. As Joe became more of an authority (in his own mind anyway) on film, he made the transition to online movie review publishing in 1998 in the form of joelozito.com. In 2005, that archive of material put the “Big Picture” in Big Picture Big Sound. Joe has also dabbled in music and acting in New York City and has, like most critics, a screenplay or two in his back pocket. When he’s not staring at a screen in a darkened room, Joe enjoys playing guitar, karate, golf and scuba diving. However, he mostly watches movies. Mostly.

3/4 94% Hugo (2011) " If Martin Scorsese is going to do a family-friendly film in 3D, it should be no surprise that it turns out to be a visually stunning (if ponderous and over-long) tribute to nothing short of the invention of cinema." — Big Picture Big Sound

3/4 35% The Thing (2011) " As overrun with special effects as its predecessor, this sequel (disguised as a prequel) is also every bit as creepy." — Big Picture Big Sound

3/4 93% 50/50 (2011) " This ambitious comedy may appear benign on the surface but it's likely to stay with you and develop into something more than you might have thought. And in this case that's a good thing." — Big Picture Big Sound

2.5/4 84% Contagion (2011) " This paranoia-fest is, at its heart, a straightforward ticking-clock thriller. And it generates about all the suspense you can hope for from a movie with a faceless, microscopic antagonist." — Big Picture Big Sound

0/4 17% Shark Night 3D (2011) " How could this movie be so unconscionably bad - so inept in every way - that it actually makes "Jaws: The Revenge" redeemable?" — Big Picture Big Sound

.5/4 24% Conan the Barbarian (2011) " A misfire in every way, this franchise reboot is a noisy, incomprehensible mess of a film that almost makes worse use of the character than it does of the 3D technology." — Big Picture Big Sound

2/4 44% Cowboys & Aliens (2011) " Director Jon Favreau's competent adaptation of the Hollywood-ready graphic novel delivers on every ounce of its one-joke premise: you'll see cowboys fighting aliens. You'll get very little else." — Big Picture Big Sound

3.5/4 79% Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) " Thanks to solid performances and a script that is clever, funny and respectful of the source material, this origin story is the best comics-to-screen adaptation since "Batman Begins"." — Big Picture Big Sound

1/4 36% Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011) " This third installment in the noisy, interminable, and in-all-ways robotic series is not quite as unforgivably bad as the last one, but that doesn't make it good." — Big Picture Big Sound

2/4 41% The Expendables (2010) " There's a lot in this nostalgic Sylvester Stallone actioner that lives up to its title - the recycled plot, the forgettable characters, the monotonous violence - but it's an undeniable kick to see these vets in action." — Big Picture Big Sound
