Metropolis, 2001, The Lord of the Rings -- dramas may be the most applauded every year, but it's that rare, transcendental science-fiction/fantasy flick that will forward film as art by leaps and bound. It may not have happened this year, but these five are more than enough to massage the eye and mind for the time being.
