The critics have had their say in the 6th Annual Golden Tomato Awards, and now our readers have had their say in Rotten Tomatoes' first ever User Tomato Awards. The polls remained open for two weeks and the results were hidden to prevent undue influences. Million Dollar Baby, Sideways, The Aviator -- which, if any of these choices, came out on top? Read on to find out.

Thank you for participating in Rotten Tomatoes' first ever User Tomato Awards. The polls are now closed. And now, on to the results. Nominees for each category were selected from the top 5 leading movies in each category for the Golden Tomato Awards.


FAVORITE WIDE RELEASE

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Out of 924 total votes, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind received 495 or 53.57% of the total votes to become the User Award winner in the Wide Release category. Directed by Michel Gondry, Eternal Sunshine stars Jim Carrey as a heartbroken man who undergoes a procedure to remove his ex-girlfriend (Kate Winslet) from his memory, but changes his mind mid-procedure. The Incredibles, this year's Golden Tomato winner, comes in distant second with 17.86% of the votes.

FAVORITE LIMITED RELEASE

Sideways Pinot Noir is currently in vogue, thanks to Alexander Payne's heartfelt comedy, Sideways. Starring Paul Giamatti and Thomas Haden Church, the movie tells the story of two buddies on a trip of self-discovery through the Napa Valley. Sideways won the Golden Tomato for this category; now it has also been voted a reader favorite.

The Incredibles The Parr family (aka the Incredibles) may feel alienated from society, but they can take comfort in the love they've received from RT. The Golden Tomato winner in the Animation category also triumphed with users, with a whopping 346 votes, or 76.72%. Shrek 2 was the runner up for both the Golden Tomato and User Awards.

Napoleon Dynamite The least popular kid in school is the most popular kid with our readers in the Comedy category: Napoleon Dynamite, the low-budget ode to a colossal nerd, took 151 votes, or 30.88%. The Golden Tomato winner in this category, Mean Girls, lost this popularity contest, placing third with users; the film garnered 105 votes, or 21.47%.

FAVORITE FOREIGN

Hero Perhaps Kenneth Turan of the Los Angeles Times summed it up best when he wrote, "…the unseen Hero production team has made what just might be the most artistically sophisticated, most formally beautiful martial arts film the genre has seen." Looks like our readers agree, with the movie getting 62.78% of the votes to become our User Award favorite in the Foreign category. Hero won the Golden Tomato award for this category also.

Shaun of the Dead There are different ways of approaching horror, and one of them is to make you laugh as well as cringe. And so, Shaun of the Dead throws in a slacker/romantic comedy along with its multitude of British zombies. Hey, why not? Critics enjoyed the results, as the Golden Tomato Awards proved, and with 54.20% of the votes (245 out of 452), Shaun is a favorite with the users as well.

Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events Though The Incredibles (not a nominee in this category) was given much support on the award forums, the ultimate winner in the Kids/Family genre turned out to be Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events. Receiving 77.37% of the votes (188 out of 243), the morbidly whimsical Lemony Snicket beat the Golden Tomato winner, Two Brothers, which came in second at 14.40%.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind With so many formulaic romances to review, it's no wonder critics hanker for something different. And it turns out moviegoers appreciate originality and complexity in their love stories as well. The quirky Charlie Kaufman-penned Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, which won a Golden Tomato for best Romance, is also the winner of the corresponding User Award. With 73.26% of the votes (315 out of 430), it's a clear favorite.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban With so many Potter fans out there, it's no surprise that the winner of the User Award for Sci-Fi/Fantasy is the third blockbuster in the series, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Also the Sci-Fi/Fantasy winner in the Golden Tomato Awards, the Alfonso Cuaron-directed Azkaban received 232 votes from the users out of a total of 373, or 62.20%.

Collateral When a hitman and a taxi driver took a drive through the nighttime streets of Los Angeles, the scenario became a compelling sit for critics and audiences alike. James Berardinelli of Reelviews comes in a distant second with 9.12% of the votes, and New York Times' A.O. Scott comes in third with 8.51%. Besides writing for the Sun-Times, Ebert also hosts a weekly TV show with fellow Sun-Times writer, Richard Roeper, where they offer their trademark "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" judgments on movies.
