Every once in a while there arrives a child performance so stunning it's hard to imagine what magic conjured it. As Hushpuppy, a six-year-old girl facing down floodwaters, mythical beasts and her father's ailing health, Wallis is the burning bright light that galvanizes Behn Zeitlin's strange confection of realism and imagination.
