A very astute filmmaker in a shiny gold blazer commented tonight that my Toronto blogs have reflected, throughout our eleven-day stand at the film festival, my waning excitement and deteriorating energy levels as the days progressed. That man was absolutely correct, all the way down to his sparkly sequined high-tops.

That man is the fantastic, bi-coastal Malcolm Ingram, director of the 2006 Sundance entry "small town gay bar." He was hands down the most interesting, best company Senh and I found tonight at the festival's Closing Night Party, which we reluctantly dragged ourselves to on our last night in Toronto.

The party signaled what everyone already knew: that the festival really ended days ago, when most people (celebs and press alike) left town to go back to L.A. and New York. What remained, filling the massive outdoor tent on Closing Night, looked to be a crowd of dressed up locals -- seeking, perhaps, to catch a glimpse of a Brad, a Jude, or a J. Lo.

The delightful Malcolm disappeared into the crowd and we realized that the party was almost as lame as a high school prom, minus the adolescent drama that made that so interesting, with the added vulgarity of watching thirty-somethings flail wildly about on a sparsely inhabited Top 40s dance floor.

We hightailed it out of the snoozefest and headed back to the hotel, woke Tim out of his cold-induced stupor, and went for Stellas in the hotel bar.

Tomorrow we're on a plane back to where the accents are normal and the money isn't rainbow-colored. Toronto was good, it was great, but now it's time to go.

I appreciate the time you took to maintain the blog, along with the fabulous pictures! As hectic as it must be up there, I'm sure all was a blast, but like any trip when it's time to return...it's TIME! I'm a little more stoked about some of the movies you reviewed and some that received good responses. Great work.

Thanks, I appreciate the comment! Of course it is all about the movies (or should I say, aboot them) and we have a lot of forthcoming reviews to post: Black Book, Bobby, Exiled, Breaking and Entering, Catch A Fire, The Dog Problem,

Love that silhouette pic! And photos of a cold-induced Tim with streaky lighting effects does a rockstar make. Nice Biggie reference, btw.

Saw Emilio Estevez's star-studded "Bobby" this morning at 8:45 am -- a cruel and unusual punishment on the parts of the festival programmers...didn't they know we HAD to see it? Coming off of 4 hours of sleep, I hoped it would deliver and make the early morning worth it. Unfortunately...

Jude Law, Robin Wright Penn, and Juliette Binoche at the "Breaking and Entering" Gala

TIFF is really winding down...time to catch up on sleep and writing!

You'll find Lindsay Lohan at the party, I sure.

Wheeeee! A whirlwind of belated blog entries from over the action-packed weekend here at the Toronto International Film Festival, with pics from the red carpet (Zach Braff! Kate Winslet! Lance Bass!), the insane "Shortbus" party-concert, and of course, movies!

Sook-Yin Lee, John Cameron Mitchell & Bitch, and Kids on TV play the "Shortbus" par-tay (Click for MORE pics from the Toronto Film Festival!)

Too bad, I was hoping The Fountain would rock.

Also, why is Lance Bass in the spotlight? :(

TORONTO: Blog Day 2 -- "Fiction," "Babel," and the Flaming Lips Live!!

We got things going Friday with a handful of screenings ("Deliver Us From Evil," "Coeurs," "Stranger Than Fiction," "Babel") but the highlight of the day, hands down, was the launch party for kid doc "Summercamp" featuring a campfire, s’mores, and a live performance by the Flaming Lips!

My morning screening was a particularly powerful doc called “Deliver Us From Evil,” about a notorious child molesting priest, his victims, and the massive cover-up by the Catholic Church that ensued when the accusations went public. It’s terribly absorbing and gut-wrenching, particularly the very candid interviews with three of Father Oliver O’Grady’s now-adult abuse victims and their horrified, enraged families. I left the screening more than a bit emotionally exhausted but very glad to have seen the film.

The directors of "Summercamp!"; Tim and Wayne.

I am delighted to see that "Babel" is your festival fave, so far. Sounds very exciting to be taking photos of celebs as they arrive for their premiers. I heard that Brad Pitt would show up to promote "Babel", any sightings?

Witherspoon and Ricci look great together there. I envy the opportunity to see these two classy women standing side by side. I'm afraid I might've embarrassed myself. :P
I'm curious, though...anyone say anything like, Wow, you're with Rottem Tomatoes, I check your site out all the time!
Anything like that? Maybe?
Stanger Than Fiction never had my interest so I'm not distressed to find out it's probably a dud.
Deliver Us From Evil sounds like one more Magdalene Sisters, which left me depressed for days afterwards.
Ricci should have a rating, by the way. I'd say 10/10. :D

I live in toronto and a friend of mine got lucky with one of the actress you're gushing over back at their hotel.

That's all these people do at the festivals when not attending functions or giving interviews, sightseeing etc..

Get down with a local with connections.

I'll take a big leap and believe it's possible, yeah. Hey, nothing wrong with that...for either of them. Any chance they videotaped it? I mean, you know, everyone's doing it these days. :D

Reese is terribly photogenic, it's criminal! And she's very kind to the photographers, more than most others so far.

A lot of people go, "hey, I check RT all the time!" which is very cool! And a Dutch writer I met at Verhoeven's "Black Book" red carpet said that a few years back in Holland there was a Rotten Tomatoes knock-off site called Rotten Herrings!!

And "Deliver Us From Evil" was terribly intense...and stays with you for days...but I believe it's well worth the trauma...

Thanks for posting!

Yep. alot of screwing around goes down during this festival. It's one reason why my friend signs up to help with the festival.

He's a "pretty boy" that girls go ga ga over and he uses that to his advantage. He loves telling me about his conquests. You wouldn't believe some of the big name married or single female celebs he's hit.

He has access to where they party, hang out etc.. The word is out that Toronto isthe place to get laid. It's one reason it's so popular.

Yesterday was Day One of the Toronto International Film Festival, and the Tomatoes had an early day. We all started strong for the 9am screenings of "This Filthy World" (Jen), "The Wind That Shakes The Barley" (Tim), and "The Banquet" (Senh).^^BREAK^^

A welcome sight after a hard day's night.

Crazy, no? Add to that about a billion dollars worth of catered food , DJs, free-flowing drinks, and about half of LA imported up North, and you've got a night to remember.

Of course, not being the VIP types we sat and talked all night with Toronto vet Michael Dwyer, film critic at the Irish Times and programmer for the Dublin Film Festival. Tim got Irish with him and we hailed a taxi home at 1 o'clock in the morning, with the party still hopping behind us.
