A group for aspiring screen writers who are also active members of rotten tomatoes, you can share ideas if you like or just talk to other people like you. I thought this would be a cool idea because I myself am an aspiring screen writer and I've written fifteen or so shorts and I am just finishing my second full length feature script but have started many others. So this is a place to share ideas and get opinions on materiel as a way to know what's a good idea and whats not which is one of the hardest things to do as a screen writer. Well have fun and chat often.

NightSurfer on 4/14/07 at 10:18 AM Hey guys will you tell me what is good and not good to put into a script?:) 2 Replies Report to Moderator IANG on 4/18/07 at 8:27 PM It's not that simple but I could try. Be original, and by original I mean with interesting dialouge and story turns, not so much interesting, shock grossouts that have never been done before, those have their place, but don't do them unless a really bad guy needs killing... Also don't worry about a scripts length, most scripts start out huge and then are cut down to "normal length", also when you worry about length you cut down creativity which is never a good idea... I hope this helps you a bit... 0 Replies Report to Moderator Stinkfist717 on 1/28/08 at 10:43 PM unexpected challenges. no happy endings or left open for imagination. corky character comeos. no cheesy ramanitc relationships. 0 Replies Report to Moderator |

Master King Sexington on 1/28/07 at 10:19 PM Here's short script for my short film...the names don't really matter. Just something to call the characters 7 Replies Report to Moderator IANG on 1/28/07 at 10:48 PM If done well I could see it being a cool short, although I think without a good director this one might not work so well. Still an alright short movie. 0 Replies Report to Moderator Master King Sexington on 1/29/07 at 9:18 PM I actually built a harness resembling what was used in certain shots for Requiem for a Dream and Bad Santa for my lead to wear for a part of the bridge and chase scene. I've taken my grandpa's wheelchair (he can't use it anymore, he's bed ridden) for steady shots. I'm going down to location tomarrow for planning. Hey man, thanks for the compliments but do ya'll think I should change something? 1 Reply Report to Moderator IANG on 1/29/07 at 9:30 PM I think the gun's more effective, you'll get the reaction out of the guy who's about to get shot like shocked "oh crap, he brought a gun" look, and he could slowly start to put his hands up and say, "we could work this out or something dude, I'm really sorry" and then get shot... I don't know, I just think a knife wouldn't be as dramatic, or it'd be dramatic in a more corny way. 0 Replies Report to Moderator Master King Sexington on 1/31/07 at 9:26 PM Well, actually, I'm going to shoot both but either way, there will be no hesitation in the time Jake pulls out either weapon and shoots/stabs. Here's what I just wrote for an alternate ending, though I didn't write Jake walking away which would still happen... 0 Replies Report to Moderator Smalley the Metalhead on 1/31/07 at 10:27 PM Something I wanted to bring up, I don't think there should be a thug conviently waiting for Jake with a pipe. There's gotta be another way to catch him. 0 Replies Report to Moderator Master King Sexington on 2/1/07 at 2:25 PM I know you may not have noticed this, but it's actually because one catches up to him, flanking him... and I quote 0 Replies Report to Moderator ShBm on 2/1/07 at 7:54 PM Easy way to do the shooting is with a fake gun, then just add in the sound and muzzle flash (if you want, it wouldn't show up in the daytime, if it is daytime). There are lots of guides on how to add a muzzle flash. I don't know what program you're using, but you can either draw the flash, or get one from somewhere online, then add it in and key out the background. Depending on the program you might be able to position to fit with the gun. Otherwise, you can take a whole frame out and edit that, then splice it back in. 0 Replies Report to Moderator |

IANG on 1/27/07 at 10:09 PM One of the first things you might notice about the movie is that although it never got a wide release the budget appears to be really quite huge. I don't know why a studio funded an R rated sci-fi comedy so heavily especially when Luke Wilson is the lead but whatever. Although it's not a profitable idea it's still pretty good. The movie basically is talking about how as time goes on smart people have less and less kids because they think about the consequences to much and dumb people have lots and lots of kids and basically populate the earth with a bunch of total morons. Luke Wilson was a totally average man in 2005 but after being chryogenically frozen for what was supposed to be one year but turned into 500 he's the smartest man on the planet. Everyone says he talks like a "Fag", the number one movie in the country is called "Ass" and is just some guys ass that farts everyonce in a while on the screen, it of course won best picture for that year and best original screenplay as well. Fuddruckers is now Butt Fuckers and many other little jokes like that. Costco is the size of new york city, lots of little jokes stretched out to ninety minutes, it works, just not extremely well. Overall pretty funny, but not as funny as it thinks it is... 6/10 0 Replies Report to Moderator |

IANG on 1/27/07 at 10:01 PM I saw this one last night and was underwhelmed to be honest. I generally really like movies like this, I'd previously seen the first 45 minutes which is the set up because the movie starts slow but in a very engaging and interesting way and after I saw where the movie seemed to be going I was intrigued to finish it. Well basically for those of you who thinks this is about some innocent little girl that gets seduced and taken to some monstrous pedophiles house, you're wrong. This girl has been stalking the pedophile and slowly but surely figuring him out, finding his buttons and knowing when to push them and when she goes to his house she's totally ready for everything. The guy is obviously not normal for taking a girl to his house but he seems to be a pretty nice guy, even in the later parts of the movie his actions aren't abnormal for someone in the situation that he's in and the little girl honestly is like a little bitch. That's one of the reasons I didn't like it, the girl does some really nasty shit to this guy without for sure proof that he's a child molester at all. At the end you of course find out that he really is a child molester but I still really found no redeeming quality's in this movie and although the acting, direction, cinematography, and the dialouge are fantastic, the story is paper thin, and in the end I just didn't like it all that much. I give it a 5 because it was done so darn well, maybe my rating for the film will go up as I think about it overtime but it won't go up over a seven or so. 0 Replies Report to Moderator |

IANG on 1/26/07 at 7:02 PM Now I could definetely see someone not liking this movie, I happened to think it was awesome. I can see why people would think its a Tarantino rip off but its still a reallly fun, really violent, and relentlessly comic in a very dark way. It suffers from a side story that involves a twist which I ended up liking because it helped the ending to be pretty cool but the movie would've been pretty good if it was just balls to the wall action with a little less plot. Joe Carnahan definetely still has it, he not only directs the actors very well, he also does some magnificent work with the camera, the cinematography in this movie is awesome. One of the better guy movies in a while, probably the best guy movie since "The Departed" came out. Great fun, awesome action, a bit of a weak plot but still bareable, and some pretty good acting to top it all off. 0 Replies Report to Moderator |

Oscar Nom Reactions |

IANG on 1/23/07 at 8:42 PM I was surprised by many of today's nom's, what do all of you have to say about them. Who missed out? Who was undeserving of their nom? Who where you happy but surprised to see there? I think that Children of Men being so scarce is the biggest crime, the movie was only nominated in one major category which was best adapted screenplay. It got technical noms like best cinematography and best film editing. 5 Replies Report to Moderator Brightside on 1/24/07 at 12:45 AM Abigail Breslin should not have been nominated. How much work does it take to get in front of a camera and be cute? Not much. LMS for best picture? Please. Great movie, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't deserve to be a nominee for best picture. I was surprised that neither Dreamgirls or Babel got nominated(personally I've seen neither of the 2). 1 Reply Report to Moderator IANG on 1/24/07 at 2:34 PM I would've nominated Breslin, she added alot to that role and helped th movie move along. Also I'm not upset by LMS's nom for best picture. I think that Children of Men deserved a best pic nom more than any of the others on that list but of course it didn't get nominated. Lastly, about you're end comment, Babel did get nominated for best pic... Dreamgirls didnt and thats good because it didn't deserve it. 1 Reply Report to Moderator Brightside on 1/24/07 at 2:53 PM Oh alright I didn't know it got nominated. She was cute and was great don't get me wrong but best supporting actress? Come on. Little Miss Sunshine was a great movie but look at all of the other movies worthy of that nomination that were better than LMS. Smalley the Metalhead on 1/24/07 at 2:31 PM COM should've been nominated for Best Picture over The Departed. TD was good, but not as fresh or ground-breaking as COM. 1 Reply Report to Moderator IANG on 1/24/07 at 2:35 PM see I agree that COM should've been nominated but I wouldn't take The Departed out of that list, I'd take Babel out, it was good but nothing incredible, I was very bored to be honest and I can sit through some very slow movies. 0 Replies Report to Moderator KwazyWabbit on 1/24/07 at 3:38 PM I feel Cuaron got a major snub for Best Director. I knew that sadly Children Of Men would not get a BP nom. The academy snubs stuff like that all the time. 1 Reply Report to Moderator IANG on 1/24/07 at 6:59 PM yeah, I also expected the best pic snub after it got snubbed nearly everywhere else but I too expected a best director. It does suck that it was snubbed though, the BO this weekend is going to be all Academy movies and since it wasn't nominated it'll fall even further at the BO, lame... 0 Replies Report to Moderator Smalley the Metalhead on 1/24/07 at 7:03 PM Didn't see Babel. Want to, though. 0 Replies Report to Moderator KwazyWabbit on 1/25/07 at 4:57 PM Hey I am not gorb go check out my 3K thread and tell me what your think of my selection. 0 Replies Report to Moderator |

Trials of Jonas
Romantic Comedy- A young guy (Jonas) falls for a chick (Emily), but she won't leave her asshole boyfriend (Max).
So far, I've gotten next to no criticism at all, everyone just says it's great and then typically mentions a few typos or whatnot they found in the script. My film professor really likes it, and sent it off to some of his friends and such in LA, one of whom was a professional reader that sent him back free coverage of the first draft (It's currently in its third draft), it got an 8/10 overall and "Good" in all the categories, so I guess it's worth reading, that's what everyone seems to say anyway.
Any and all criticism is accepted, if something seems boring, I want to know. If dialog is written badly, I'd like to know. Pretty much just anything that seems to be a problem is something I wanna hear about, as none of the 20~30ish friends and family of mine who have read it have really had anything bad to say, probably to avoid hurting my feelings or something.
Anyway, for whoever reads it I appreciate it, and I hope you enjoy it. Couldn't think of anywhere else to upload it but filefront, heh. And yeah, it's registered with the WGA west, library of congress, etc.
