Release Date: April 30, 2010
Come April and the release of a new Nightmare on Elm Street, all three iconic 1980s horror franchises will have been remade. The Halloween remake attracted a medium-sized director and the Friday the 13th one had a huge opening before instantly tapering off to bad word-of-mouth. Will the same fate befall Freddy Krueger?
The movie marks a continued comeback streak for long-absent Jackie Earle Haley, who followed an Oscar nom in Little Children with a movie-stealing performance as Rorschach in Watchmen. Haley gets his first proper big movie as the antagonist, a serial killing pedophile burned alive by an angry mob, only to reappear as a ghoul who haunts teens' dreams.
The Nightmare movies are driven by the Freddy Krueger character and while Haley is a more than capable actor, it remains to be seen if horror fans will accept him in the role so fully associated with Robert Englund.
