Maine's movie is...

Dolores Claiborne

Stephen King is undoubtedly Maine’s best selling author and quite possibly the state’s most prolific. Though his stories are typically dark and macabre, many of them take place in the fictional town of Castle Rock, which serves as a sort of proxy for the prototypical New England town – quaint colonial architecture, friendly neighbors, and a backdrop of natural beauty. Even considering his knack for gory detail and expressive storytelling style, it’s still impressive that nearly a hundred of his novels and short stories have been adapted for the screen and directed by the likes of Stanley Kubrick, Taylor Hackford, David Cronenberg, and Rob Reiner, just to name a few. We decided to go with Dolores Claiborne, as one of the Castle Rock films more grounded in reality, but others like The Dead Zone, Cujo, and Needful Things also provide glimpses of small-town life in Maine as seen through the eyes of the horror master.
